Oakland International to transport aid to help Ukraine | Redditch Advertiser

A REDDITCH haulage firm is stepping up to help deliver vital supplies to Ukraine.

Oakland International, based in Beoley, is sending a fleet of trucks to transport donations to Poland to help the hundreds of thousands of people in Ukraine who have been forced to flee from their homes following the invasion of Russian forces.

The firm is leading a UK-wide level of support by providing lorries for 50 transports with ten hubs.

The team was inspired to act last weekend after seeing images on the news of Ukrainians displaced by the Russian invasion.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We asked the question; Is there something we could do to help? Do we have the capability? Do we have the contacts in our industry? Should we do something to help? All questions were met with a resounding ‘yes’.

“We are part of a great industry which is used to reacting quickly in troubled times and we put the call out to our sector to see what response we would get in terms of support. The size of response was overwhelming with over 30,000 reactions to a Linked-In communication within 48 hours.”

Currently, they are not collecting any perishable chilled stock until they have full guidance on the supply chain network contacts in Poland, but they are continuing to receive and dispatch ambient foods, clothing, bedding and medical supplies.

The trucks will be going to where they are needed to help, provided there is a humanitarian registered charity on hand to receive and distribute the donations.

Any community groups in Redditch that are collecting donations can drop off the supplies at a small drop-off centre at Attwell Farm Park, Seafield Lane, Beoley, B98 9DB.
